botox for migraines

Why does skin age?

Aging skin and wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, or damage caused by free radicals. The 11s – those vertical lines that appear between your brows – result from muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. After years of frequent contraction, those wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest. This is where BOTOX ® Cosmetic can help.

What is Botox?

Botox CosmeticBOTOX ® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary). It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows.BOTOX ® is also injected into the skin to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating (severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis) when medicines used on the skin (topical) do not work well enough.

Botox For Excessive Sweating

In recent times, Botox ® has become a popular treatment for hyperhidrosis, a condition involving excessive sweating. People who are diagnosed with hyperhidrosis sweat excessively, even in environments that aren’t hot and/or humid. As a result, their sweat soaks their clothes, which can lead to embarrassing social situations.

While there is a class of medication known as antiperspirants, these products don’t work well for hyperhidrosis patients. However, Botox ® is quite effective for treating and managing this condition. This off-label use for the product has consistently created impressive results for hyperhidrosis patients.

Botox ® blocks the overactive nerves that activate the function of the sweat glands. As a result, hyperhidrosis patients sweat less. The effects of this treatment last for three to four months. At this point, patients can return for follow-up treatments.

Jaw Botox

Jaw Botox involves the injection of botulinum toxin type A into the masseter muscle. The masseter muscle connects the lower jawbone to the cheekbone and serves a critical function when it comes to chewing.

When a person’s masseter muscle is impaired or doesn’t work properly, it can result in chewing troubles. Other issues may also follow, such as:

  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • TMJ/Increased tension in the jaw, leading to pain and clenching
  • Headaches

An overactive masseter muscle can also result in an overly square jaw, which is often cosmetically undesirable.

When Botox ® is injected into the affected masseter muscle, it blocks the signals of the nerves, effectively paralyzing the masseter muscle. This significantly reduces bruxism, jaw tension/TMJ, and headaches. It also allows the oversized masseter muscle to shrink back down to a more proportionate size.

When will I start to see results?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to 4 months. Individual results may vary.

How long does Botox last?

Visible results have been shown to last up to 4 months. Your own results may vary – be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about what you can expect and when to schedule your next appointment.

Is treatment with Botox painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injection, your physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the physician’s office without downtime following BOTOX ® Cosmetic treatment. Side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX ® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

What are the possible side effects of Botox Cosmetic?

  • dry mouth
  • discomfort or pain at the injection site
  • tiredness
  • headache
  • neck pain
  • eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, drooping eyelids, swelling of your eyelids, and dry eyes
  • allergic reactions. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to BOTOX ® or BOTOX ® Cosmetic may include: itching, rash, red itchy welts, wheezing, asthma symptoms, or dizziness or feeling faint. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you are wheezing or have asthma symptoms, or if you become dizzy or faint.

Tell your doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. These are not all the possible side effects of BOTOX ® Cosmetic. For more information, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

“I trust my face to him”

by Karen L | Google Reviews

I’ve been coming here for years, over 10 years! I know when I get Botox it’s not diluted. When I’ve gone some other places they always say I need more. Dr. Reichner won’t do procedures just to make a buck. If he doesn’t feel it gets results he won’t do them. He values his reputation. That’s what I love about Spa Aesthetica. Honesty. They don’t try to sell you. I’ve had many different fillers over the years and have always gotten beautiful results. I trust my face to him. I’m always confident I’ll like what I see.

Dysport

What is Dysport?

Prescription Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults less than 65 years of age.

How does Dysport work?

With just 1 injection into each of 5 points between and over the eyebrows, Dysport blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines.

How often can I get injections of Dysport?

You should wait at least 90 days between Dysport treatments. The safety of Dysport has been studied in up to 12 repeated treatments. Clinical studies demonstrated continued efficacy with up to four repeated treatments.

How long has Dysport been used?

Though approved in the United States in April 2009, Dysport has steadily gained in popularity around the world.

What are the possible side effects of Dysport?

The most common side effects are nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation, and nausea. In some cases, Dysport may cause serious side effects, such as swallowing or breathing problems, that may be life threatening.

What should I avoid while taking Dysport?

Dysport may cause loss of strength or general muscle weakness, blurred vision, or drooping eyelids within hours to weeks of taking Dysport. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities.
